Jason's Trip to Bend, Oregon...

Good evening all!! I wanted to fill everyone in on my trip to Bend, Oregon to visit the Jeld-Wen window manufacturing plant and to do some fly fishing in the Deschutes River.

My boss Mike and I met Mike Stoffel, Jim Ley, and Mike Ley at the Fort Wayne Airport and flew out around 7 a.m. on October 2 to Minneapolis and then to Portland and arrived around 11:30 a.m. We then jumped in our rental SUV and headed south 2 hours down to Bend.

We made one stop on the ride down to Bend at the Detroit Dam. Nothing too exciting about the Dam but the scenery was of course beautiful. Here are a couple of pics:

After checking in at "The Riverhouse" we all headed to are own rooms to relax and wind down from the long trip. The next pictures are of the suite I stayed in:

We toured the window plant all Friday morning and then had meetings at the plant in the afternoon. As I was laying in bed Friday night I couldn't wait till the morning to go out into the Deschutes River and do some fishing.

In this particular river the entire one side is an Indian Reservation and you're not allowed to set foot anywhere on it. Also you must have waders and fish from the river and not from the boat! So this was all new to me Mr. City boy who just started fishing about a year ago. Here are some pictures of the river and surrounding scenery. By the way I did catch a 17" mountain white fish, and had a couple of trout on my line, battled to get them in, and lost them...

On our trip back to Portland on Sunday we stopped at the "Timberline Lodge" on Mount Hood. Here are a few pictures of the entrance and a glimpse of snow on the vehicles around the lodge-I had to laugh because I was taking those pictures in shorts and a sweatshirt!

T-Bone is over 6 Weeks Old!!

Good evening all! I have been wanting to load some more pictures of Taylor on this blog for such a long time now but he is keeping Heather and I very busy!!

Things are going well! We weighed him tonight on our scale and we think he's right around 8 lbs! His spitting up is getting much better, but Heather is still going to call our Pediatrician Dr. Lisa and let her know how things are going to make sure he doesn't have acid reflux or something else.

Heather and I decided to give you an idea of what happened last week at Parkview North Hospital on a day-by-day basis for those of you who weren't in town to witness it.

Monday August 4, 2008

We went to our scheduled appointment with Dr. Blackmon at 9:15 am to see what the next step in the pregnancy was going to be. Of course they took Heather's blood pressure right away and the bottom number was above 100. Dr. Blackmon opened the door to the exam room we were in and told us right away that she wanted to admit Heather to the Family Birthing Center and get things started. Dr. Blackmon said she wanted to see how Heather's body would respond to some medication to start her labor and then go from there.
In just a few minutes we were in a labor/delivery room signing consent forms and putting our personal belongings in storage cabinets!

Heather was then given her first medicine by nurse Sally to help her body go into labor. This medicine was to be effective for 12 hours and was given to her at 11:00 am.

By 10 pm that evening, things had progressed very slowly and Heather was only measuring 1 cm. The nurse told us that they were going to let Heather's body respond to this earlier medication overnight and check her progress in the morning. After knowing this I decided to get my sleeping quarters (sheets on a fold out couch) ready and call it a night.

Tuesday August 5, 2008

At 7 am Heather was given Pitocin to again help her body go into labor. It was a waiting game to see how she would respond to this new medicine.

By 12 noon the Pitocin was stopped and another drug was administered. After hours of waiting this new medicine was ineffective and by 4 pm the Pitocin was started again.

At 7 pm Dr. Blackmon made a visit to check on Heather's status. At this point she made the big decision to break her water and get the contractions started.
What a wonderful decision it was, by 10 pm Heather was at 2 cm and the contractions were coming every other minute and were getting very painful. Due to these contractions her blood pressure began to rise even more. Nurse Christie then told us she would check with Dr. Blackmon to see if it would be okay to have the Dr. give Heather her epideral. We asked if it was too soon because we didn't want the medicine to run out before the delivery and cause Heather too much pain. We learned that by giving her epideral at 2 cm it would help lower her blood pressure readings and that it is almost impossible to run out of medicine through the epideral. Christie did tell us that as she got closer to 10 cm that she would feel some of the contractions, even with the epideral, but that they wouldn't hurt as much as they would without it.

Wednesday August 6, 2008

We were then able to get a little rest until after midnight and then she started to feel some contractions. Christie decided to check Heathers progress (she was only 3 cm 45 mins. ago) and told us that she was 10 cm!!!!! We couldn't believe it!!!! Christie then notified Dr. Blackmon and said told us she would be here to deliver Taylor in a few minutes...

Dr. Blackmon arrived around 1:30 am and prepared herself for delivery. She instructed Heather when to push and how to breathe correctly. After a great push by Heather Taylor's little head came out and then a few seconds later the rest of his beautiful little body!! What a wonderful maker our God is! He looked so perfect.

His official stats were: born at 1:42 am, 5 lbs. 14 oz, 19.5 in long, and lots of black hair!!

Our Quick Trip to the Hospital...

On Sunday August 3rd Heather's blood pressure read above 100 on the bottom number two readings in a row, so I thought it would be a good idea to take her in and have things checked out to be safe.

The nurse did some blood work right away and after two hours of waiting we received results back that she was doing ok. We told the nurse that we have an appointment on Monday to see the Dr. and they felt it was fine to let Heather go this time and have her vitals rechecked during that appointment.

Thursday July 31...

At this appointment Heather and I were hoping to find some direction as to where we were heading with the pregnancy.

At the beginning of the appointment we went to the ultrasound room to check Baby Taylor's vital signs and maybe get a guess on his current weight. All his vital signs were in check, his head was still down, and his approximate weight was 5 lbs. 6 oz..

We then met with Dr. Blackmon for a routine check-up on her blood pressure and weight. Her weight stayed the same but her blood pressure continued to stay elevated. Dr. Blackmon suggested that Heather still stay at home on bed rest and only get up if it was necessary. She also had Heather get some more blood work done to check for anything that may seem out of the ordinary. Lastly she wanted Heather to do a 24 hour urine test prior to her next visit to check the protein level in her body. Lastly Dr. Blackmon told us that if at anytime at home her blood pressure went over 100 on the bottom number to go to the ER right away.

We scheduled her next appointment for Monday August 4th at 9:15 am.
